Talks are in progress on the merger of Mey Hall Trust with the Canisbay & Dunnet Community Daycare Group. The plan is to form a new unified group with the working name of Mey & District Community Centre.
The initial purpose of the merger is to develop the long awaited daycare facility, as an extension to the rear of the Hall. This daycare facility has been 15 years in the planning and has raised significant funds towards the cost of the project. The proposals also include deepening the stage in the main hall and providing new toilets on the ground floor.
It is hoped this venture will secure the long term use of the Hall as a valuable community resource. And, make the Hall the primary focal point for local events and community welfare.
The Trust has secured planning permission and over £80k Highland LEADER grant funding for a 20Kw wind turbine to be sited behind the Hall.
The wind turbine will provide all the Halls electricity needs. It will also generate significant revenue, through the Feed-in Tariff scheme. This extra income will go a long way towards the running costs of the Hall.
From 10 May through to 13 September there will be an indoor market in the Main Hall on a Tuesday between 10:30am and 3:00pm.
There will be local food, artwork and craftwork for sale and the chance to buy refreshments.
Any local producer wishing to take a stall should contact Jane Strugnell on 01955 611739, for further information.
The Hall is to host three wedding receptions during August. It is hoped more will follow as the Castle of Mey builds on it’s reputation as a wedding venue. Whatever your event, why not make the Hall your venue of choice?
Are you prepared to support the community in which you live and / or help raise funds for the Hall? To learn more please contact Ellen Simpson, our Secretary, on 01847 851736. She’s waiting to hear from you!
